General Questions

Can I use other applications when batch converting with iPhoto Batch Enhancer?
No. Please refrain from using your computer for other tasks while batch converting with iPhoto Batch Enhancer. The reason is that iPhoto needs to be the frontmost application for some editing operations to succeed.

Why are some options disabled in the main window?
Snapshots require the adjust-palette, which was introduced with iPhoto 5. iPhoto Batch Enhancer only supports the effects of your iPhoto software.

How can I transfer snapshots from one computer to another?
In iPhoto Batch Enhancer select "File - Export Snapshots - All..." to save all your snapshots. Move the saved file to the new computer and choose "File - Import Snapshots..." to import all your saved snapshots.

What are the System Requirements?
You need a Macintosh computer running at least Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger". Both PowerPC and Intel Macs are supported. You also need Apple's iPhoto 5 or newer. This comes bundled when you buy a new Mac and can be upgraded to the latest version by buying the latest iLife suite.
The exact versions of Mac OS X and iPhoto, that have been tested with iPhoto Batch Enhancer, can be found in the Manual.

iPhoto Batch Enhancer and iPhoto

What do I do if I don't like the result of batch processing some photos?
iPhoto keeps a backup of the original photo. Please select "Photos - Revert to Original" or "Photos - Reprocess RAW" from iPhoto's menu to cancel any changes you have made.

Does iPhoto Batch Enhancer create backups before modifying my photos?
No, but iPhoto keeps a backup of the original photo. Please select "Photos - Revert to Original" or "Photos - Reprocess RAW" from iPhoto's menu to cancel any changes you have made.

What are snapshots and why should I care?
If you haven't already used the adjust palette in iPhoto you probably don't need snapshots. Yet the adjust palette is a powerful tool to enhace your photos if the automatic enhancement tool fails, for example on shots with a lot of snow or water.
When you have several pictures with roughly the same colors open the adjust palette in iPhoto and move the sliders until you are happy with the result. While the palette is still open select "New Snapshot" in the iPhoto Batch Enhancer menu item. After that exit edit mode, select all other photos and apply the new snapshot to them. Find out more in the manual.

Why is iPhoto being restarted sometimes when applying actions via iPhoto Batch Enhancer?
When you choose actions of type "Script" and apply them iPhoto Batch Enhancer has to be the external editor. Restarting iPhoto is the only way to change this preference externally.
If you open "iPhoto - Preferences", choose "In application..." on the "General" pane and choose iPhoto Batch Enhancer in the next dialog the restarting won't happen again.

How does iPhoto Batch Enhancer work with nondestructive editing from iPhoto 7 or later?
iPhoto 7 and higher feature nondestructive editing for the adjust palette. Find out more at Apple's support site.
Please note that in iPhoto 7 all previous changes to the adjust palette are being ignored when applying a snapshot. A way to "burn in" the adjust palette slider positions is to add the script action "Scale by ratio" with a ratio of 100 prior to a snapshot action.

Got Problems?

I get the error "NSReceiverEvaluationScriptError: 4". What does it mean?
This error means that iPhoto cannot understand a command. This can happen directly after importing some photos or when the photo library is getting bigger. After a restart of iPhoto everything should beworking again.
Important: For some of the steps iPhoto needs to be the frontmost application. To avoid any problems you should refrain from using your computer for other tasks during the conversion process.
If a restart doesn't help the iPhoto library might be corrupted and needs to be rebuilt. Please make a backup of your library if possible. Apple provides more detailed information on its support pages for iPhoto up to version 5 and iPhoto 6 or higher.

I get unpredictable error messages that don't seem to make sense.
This isn't standard behaviour of iPhoto Batch Enhancer. Some outdated input managers or scripting additions might interfere with iPhoto Batch Ehancer.
Try moving all files in the folders Library/InputManagers and Library/ScriptingAdditions in your home directory as well as the system's root directory to a different location and restart your computer to check whether the problems persist. Please note that the installing applications might rely on these files. Therefore you should try to update these applications to the latest version.
If these suggestions don't help, please send us an error report from within the application. That will give us the required information to help you solve the problem individually.
